Everything you need to know about building ATS-optimised resumes with ATSApply.
General
ATSApply is a free, browser-based resume builder designed specifically to help your resume pass Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS). It provides real-time ATS scoring, keyword analysis by target role, three professional templates, and one-click PDF export — with no account required.
Yes — completely free. No subscription, no freemium tier, no hidden paywalls. Every feature including PDF download, ATS scoring, and unlimited resumes is available to everyone at no cost.
No account is required. ATSApply stores all your resumes in your browser's local storage (IndexedDB). Open the builder and start building immediately. Your data never leaves your device.
ATS Scoring
The score is out of 100 points across five criteria: Required Sections (20pts) — whether your resume has a summary, skills, experience, and education; Keyword Presence (25pts) — how many role-specific keywords appear in your resume; Experience Quality (20pts) — whether your bullets are detailed and quantified; Skill Density (15pts) — whether you have 8–15 skills listed; and Completeness (20pts) — contact info, LinkedIn, projects, certifications, and summary length.
Scores are graded as: Poor (0–49), Fair (50–69), Good (70–84), Excellent (85+). Aim for 80+ when applying to competitive roles. Select a target role in the ATS Analysis tab to get role-specific keyword suggestions that boost your score.
Most ATS software scans resumes for specific skills and keywords from the job description before passing them to recruiters. If your resume doesn't contain the right keywords, it may be automatically filtered out — regardless of your actual experience. ATSApply matches your resume against role-specific keyword libraries curated from thousands of job postings.
PDF & Templates
Yes. ATSApply generates a real PDF with selectable, copyable text — not a screenshot or image-based PDF. ATS software can parse every word. We use browser print-to-PDF, which produces a clean, text-layer PDF that scores well in all major ATS platforms.
Three templates are available: Classic ATS (clean, traditional, Arial font — best for corporate roles), Professional ATS (Georgia serif font, slightly premium typography — great for senior roles), and Minimal ATS (Helvetica, ultra-compact — ideal for content-heavy resumes). All three are designed to score perfectly in ATS parsers.
Yes. Six colour themes are available — Default (black), Blue, Purple, Green, Red, and Saffron. These apply accent colours to section headings, your name, and contact labels. Note that for maximum ATS compatibility, black or dark blue themes are recommended as some older ATS parsers struggle with coloured text.
Data & Privacy
All your resume data is stored exclusively in your browser using IndexedDB (with LocalStorage as a fallback). No data is transmitted to any server. Clearing your browser data will delete your resumes — use the Export (JSON) feature to back them up.
In the builder, click the Export button in the preview toolbar to download your resume as a JSON file. To restore it later, use the Import button and select the JSON file. This also lets you transfer resumes between devices or browsers.
Yes — after the page initially loads, the builder works fully offline. Your resumes are saved locally. PDF generation uses the browser's print function which also works offline.
